David Baldacci is a wonderful author! His books tend to hook me very quickly and then move along at a fast and steady pace. For me, that is the perfect recipe. He has written many novels. Of those, his first, Absolute Power, was made into a movie in 1997. It starred Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman and is definitely worth watching if you haven’t seen it.
He has also written several series. And I love a good series! I have not read all of them yet but am diligently working on it. Of the ones I have read, my favorite is the Will Robie series.
Will Robie series
Will Robie is a hitman for the US government. He is the guy that gets called when the other government agencies and sometimes the military have been unsuccessful in stopping some of America’s most ruthless adversaries. It’s sounds odd to say but even though he is an assassin, he’s still a nice guy.
In the first book, he crosses paths with a young girl named Julie that he decides to help. They end up forming an uncle/niece type of relationship. She is a remaining presence throughout the series.
Later, he teams up with a fellow agent, Jessica Reel. She is the only other person who can match Robie’s skill level. She is just as dangerous as he is. And again, her character is extremely likeable.
I absolutely love those two together. The chemistry they develop as the series progresses is fabulous. They are constantly put in dangerous situations. Often, these situations would have catastrophic effects on the country, if they were unable to successfully complete their missions.
The characters in this series are fantastic and the stories are interesting and action packed.
The series consists of the following books (in order from 1st to last):
Bullseye – novella
King and Maxwell series
My second favorite series is the Sean King and Michelle Maxwell series. King and Maxwell are former secret service agents who have become private investigators. Both have been fired from the secret service for different reasons.
Sean King was providing protection for a presidential candidate when he allowed his attention to be diverted for a moment. Unfortunately, this resulted in the death of the candidate. This is why he no longer works for the secret service.
Michelle Maxwell had the unfortunate luck to have the politician she was supposed to be protecting vanish while under her protection. This is why she no longer works for the secret service.
Their adventures are action packed and there is a lot of humor in the interaction between them. For example, King is very neat and Maxwell is extremely messy. This creates some humorous situations. Baldacci has created another great team with these two characters. In fact, this series was made into a television series.
This series consists of the following books (in order from 1st to last):
The Sixth Man
King and Maxwell
If you have not read any of his books, I hope you will take the opportunity to do so. They are definitely worth the time.
