My name is Jen and I’m one half of Sprinkles of Sand. The Pet Corner is where we celebrate our pets so I thought I would introduce you to mine. I have one dog, three cats, one hamster and four chickens. My dog is a black Lab named Stella. I have three cats named Bandit, Emma and Lily. My hamster’s name is Cinnamon. If you would like to read about them, I made a little bio with a picture for each one. And last, but certainly not least, are my four chickens. Their names are Eve, Heidi, Abby and Liesel. Pictures of the chickens can be found In the Chicken Coop.
I included my bunny Oliver who passed away just before we launched the blog. There is a section dedicated to bunny care and he is featured in the articles so I thought it only proper that he retain his place. I love rabbits and this is the first time in fifteen years that I don’t have one. I imagine I will adopt another bunny but I have decided to wait a little while.
Stella — This my dog Stella. She is a six-year-old black Lab full of love and energy. She has some significant allergies, but in typical Lab fashion, she takes it in stride and doesn’t let it stop her from enjoying her life to the fullest. She wakes up every morning brimming with joy just to be alive and eager to start her day. She is up for trying just about anything and will tackle it with a positive attitude. I am a very lucky human to have her as my friend!
Bandit — This is my cat Bandit. She is four years old. I would describe her as the consummate cat. She has a typical feline personality. One minute she loves you and the next she slaps you in the face. Stubbornness is definitely part of her personality. She loves super soft blankets and playing in the water. When she is in her sweet mood, she is very loving. Bandit can be a lot of fun. She is also incredibly protective of Emma. I am fortunate to have two cats who are so close. They are truly best friends.
Emma — Emma is my sweet little girl. She is 3 years old. She was very close to dead when I found her, as a young kitten, in the parking lot at work. Fortunately, she survived and has thrived. I attribute her prosperity to her best friend Bandit who watches out for her. Emma has FIV and things were pretty dicey throughout her first year. Her development was delayed because she was so ill at such a young age but she caught up. She has been very healthy for the last two years and her prognosis remains good at this time. Emma loves to play with soft pom-pom balls and is a huge fan of cardboard boxes. She is one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met and every day I get with her is a wonderful present.
Lily — Lily is the newest addition to my family. She is a five-month old stray kitten that showed up outside in my yard. She was dehydrated and starving and had quite a few medical problems stemming from malnutrition. She is really sweet and has improved quickly. She now has a clean bill of health. I’m still learning about her. She loves to play with toys, has those crazy kitten bursts of energy and is definitely loving living inside. Best of all she is incredibly sweet and affectionate. It’s so nice to see her healthy and happy.
Cinnamon — Cinnamon is my adorable teddy bear hamster. She is super friendly and very brave. Sharing her home with three cats and a dog doesn’t even phase her. When she is out of her cage, in the hamster ball, she rolls right into the cats and keeps on going. In normal hamster fashion she loves food, chewing on everything and running on her wheel. Since she is in constant motion when she is awake and burrowed when she is sleeping, getting a good picture of her is difficult. I did the best I could.
Oliver — This is my bunny Oliver. He is an 8-year old mini rex and a sweet and gentle little guy. He was found hopping for his life by a very nice lady who took the time to try to catch him. He was being chased by cats and dogs and running into the road to get away from them. It took a few days but she was successful in catching him. Unfortunately, she could not keep him. She brought him to the vet’s office where I worked at the time. His back leg was injured but healed quickly. I took him home and the rest is history. He loves soft blankets and timothy hay.
