Orange essential oil may surprise you, as it did me, in the numerous benefits this delightful oil brings to skin, health, beauty, cleaning and the kitchen. The essential oil comes from the zest of the outer peel. The strong aroma comes from this concentrated oil that is responsible for healing abilities from one of its’ active ingredients known as limonene. Considered a powerful antioxidant, limonene is great for fighting inflammation that can lead to various other diseases.
Throughout history, orange essential oil has been used to effectively treat conditions such as depression, chronic fatigue, skin infections, poor circulation, colds and flu. More recent research has shown there may be benefits related to fighting certain cancers.
My experience with this oil is that the refreshing scent is very relaxing and eases stress and anxiety. Orange oil is a natural anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, diuretic, and disinfectant.
Some key ways to use Orange Essential Oil:
Aromatically: This essential oil promotes a happy, relaxed feeling. The easing of anger, anxiety, and depression are some key benefits for diffusing the oil. Another great fact is that when diffused, it disinfects by killing fungi and other pathogens in the environment. Note: when using a diffuser, make sure citrus oil can be used.
Topically: This essential oil can be used to disinfect wounds. Applying oil to the bottom of feet can reduce stress and anxiety. Orange oil is also a natural remedy for high blood pressure and is capable of fighting hypertension and improving blood flow throughout the body. This is also a great oil to use to naturally soothe sore muscles bone or joint pain. When using topically, use a carrier oil such as coconut or almond oil prior to massaging for improved blood flow or to sore and swollen areas to bring down inflammation.
With high levels of vitamin C to help protect and heal skin, women can use orange essential oil to help fight the signs of aging by promoting the production of collagen. For acne sufferer’s, redness and swelling should improve when using this natural approach rather than the drying chemical ingredients found in commercial products.
Ingest: For those who suffer from digestive issues, orange oil works to ease digestive discomfort and acid-reflux/heartburn. Just add to drinking water.
Another aspect regarding the use of the orange essential oils is in the kitchen. The oil is a delicious addition to sauces, salad dressings and drinks.
Household Use: This essential oil is great for all kinds of household uses. One of my favorites is a non-toxic furniture polish. Pure orange oil is chemical free and great for those who want to eliminate the chemicals in the home environment. Orange oil can be used in DIY cleaning sprays, scented candles, laundry detergent, multi-purpose cleaner and so much more.
